The Mummies & The Minxes

10-

When you call a blog authored by two women, the mummy and the minx, the inevitable question is, who is the mummy and who is the minx?

We are Sarah and Robyna, both mothers on a journey to rediscover our inner minxes and we invite you along.

This blog is NOT about being a yummy mummy, although we both enjoy fashion.  It is NOT about losing those last five kilos after pregnancy, although if that is your goal, we are going to support you 100%.  It is NOT about telling you the best ways to raise your kids, although we talk about what is working and not working for us.  It is NOT about paleo-clean-latest fad eating, although Sarah in particular is passionate about nutritious food and cooking.

It IS about finding the parts of yourself that may have gone into hiding since having kids.  It IS about getting the mojo back into your life.  It IS about expanding possibilities when they contract after having babies.  It IS about you – the intrinsic you.

Early motherhood provides the pause between who you were and who you will be.

We think that’s scary and incredibly exciting.  It’s okay to feel a little lost in your identity – it means that you have a world of possibility open to you.  We want to explore those possibilities with you.

We want this to be a place without judgement.   We want this to be a place where you feel good about yourself.  The place you can plug into, get energy, get excited, get real and get that inner minx out to play.

How do we plan to help you do this we can hear you all asking? Each month we will host a challenge – either a Mummy or a Minx Challenge.

A Mummy Challenge could be as simple as photograph inspired by a particular word a day, or it could be as confronting as unwrapping the cotton wool from around our children.  We want this to be a community and encourage you to play along on Instagram and/or Facebook with the hashtag, #mummychallenge.  We promise to make the Mummy Challenges fresh and inspiring.

Now to make things really interesting, there is also going to be Minx Challenges (#minxchallenge) each month. And it’s not all thigh high boots and candles. Although that does sound rather minxy!

A Minx Challenge is about setting the time aside for you. There will be practical challenges each month, e.g. when was the last time you had a pap smear? I can hear the response now, “Well that was before I had my son and…He’s now three years old.” We all do it, there’s no shame. But that’s the point of the Minx Challenge. It’s about putting the woman in you first – be it your health, your mind, your spirit, your nails – even if it is for a small amount of time each month, we really believe to be the best mummy you can be means nurturing the woman that you are.

As well as the challenges, at least once a week there will be a blog post. We will be blogging about all sorts of things to do with being a mummy, wife, woman, friend, daughter, colleague and citizen. The topics will vary and will reflect where we are respectively at in life. We will also hopefully have some guest blogs and interviews every now and then from people we consider to be “experts” in their field. Our blog posts will be interesting and thoughtful and let you know that you are not alone.

So ladies, in a nut shell that is The Mummy & The Minx.

Why don’t you head on over to About Us and get to know us a little bit more?  Better yet – tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi guys! What a great idea for an online community-I’m in! I’m looking forward to getting some ideas and inspiration on finding my inner mummy/minx mix… It’s so true for so many of us that we lose sight of ourselves when our lives are so focused on on our little ones! Best wishes for the new venture!

Hi Robyna and Sarah! I’m mum to 2 boys, a 5 year old at prep and a 3 year old starting kindy next year… The house is already much quieter and emptier… Mixed emotions! Looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts and experiences.
