Sharing my passion – Sarah’s Salads

Food has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.

Some of my earliest memories are of baking with my mum. My family always grew some of our own fruit and vegetables, or had chickens be it for eggs or meat.

On Christmas holidays we would drive from the Atherton Tablelands to Brisbane and stay with my Grandparents. My Grandfather was a mad horticulturist – fruit, vegetables, flowers, he grew it all in abundance. I would sit in the peach or nectarine tree and just gorge myself. Even now, with his ill health he still instructs my Grandmother on what needs to be planted and done in the garden at their retirement village.

These days I also love growing my own herbs and vegetables and am hoping to expand into some fruit trees this summer.

Sarah's salads

I love reading and watching chefs and cooks who focus on the importance of good produce, Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer are my all time favorites. And then there is Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall of River Cottage fame, and of course the adorable Jamie Oliver, and the charming Valentine Warner.

Something I am always complemented on is my salads. So as a way to share my passion with you, our lovely readers, I have put together a small collection of some of my salad recipes – Sarah’s Salads. These are the ones people constantly ask me the recipes for. I’m big on pimping salads and taking them to the next level. So each recipe has an optional “pimp it” section as well.

These recipes are not original, they are all influenced from others I have tried. I do hope that you enjoy them.

Bon Appetite!

Operation Daycare

If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook you might have seen these lovely photos we posted on Friday.

Aren't we amazing and have it so

Weren’t we having a FABULOUS day! Delicious bubbly to celebrate being picked as finalists in the 2014 Bupa Blog Awards at a lovely place in the city and no children! We had uninterrupted conversations and for a short moment I remembered how easy things once were.

This however, was my highlight reel. To get to this point, bubbles in hand and adult conversation under way, took a fair bit of effort. Getting my little human to daycare went something along these lines, enjoy: Read more

Wake up call

This post is a once off and I am sharing this story with you because there is a slight chance it might help someone else.

I’m 33 and healthy. I think everyone who knows me would vouch that I am fit AND healthy actually. Fairly sleep deprived but we’re getting on top of that. I exercise most days, I like being active and I see a personal trainer once a week. I am heavily into nutrition and eat a healthy, balanced diet.

I also have a strong family history of early-onset heart disease. My father had a mild heart attack when he was 42 and by the time he was 49 had triple by-pass surgery. His father died at 54 on what was his seventh heart attack I believe the story goes. Heart disease is prevalent in his brothers as well. Read more

Big Bloggy News: We are finalists in the Bupa blog awards!

Big News - Image Credit Robyna MayWe have some BIG news. A little while ago, we entered the Bupa blog awards. We know we are infants in blog land, as new, keen and ever-learning as our babies but we believe in what we are saying.  And so we entered.
We believe it’s important to reflect on our identities and how they change through life.  We believe it’s important to truly value motherhood. We believe that every single one of us has passions, talent and purpose that deserve to be recognised and put to good use. And it turns out, other people believe in us and the things we stand for too.

Ta-Da!!! We are a finalist in the Bupa parents to be and babies category.
