Pip’s super cute quiz to sum up our year….

The year is coming to a close. It is Christmas Day tomorrow! How did that happen right? We are so grateful for many things that 2014 has given us. In particular we are overwhelmed and humbled by the support of this little community that we are building. You guys are really ace. We are sending you all the sincerest thanks, love and light from our hearts.

Now, in keeping with the theme of reflection this month, we have done  a little exercise and we thought you might like to do it too.

Our lovely mentor Pip Lincolne over at Meet Me At Mikes, gave us these questions to ponder and we think they are an awesome way to get our heads in the right place for embarking on a new year. Have a happy and safe Christmas!

Robyna’s Reflections

Question One: Who are some people who inspired you in 2014?

There are those that I admire from afar, and those that I know and love well. My inspirations and girl crushes are Julia Gillard & Lisa Messenger.  I saw Julia Gillard speak and was blown away by her warmth, intelligence and generosity. She is so very different from how she was consistently portrayed the media.  The resilience she showed every single day as our Prime Minister is nothing short of amazing. In her book, My Story, she attributes that resilience to having a clear purpose. Something I am personally working on.  Lisa Messenger, the editor of the Renegade Collective magazine, also cites a clear purpose as the driving force behind her growing success. I had the considerable privilege of hearing her speak this year – that girl has passion, commitment and zero fear. She asks. She gets. Closer to home, my mother, my sisters and my friends constantly inspire me with their bravery, honesty and creativity.

Question Two: Which blogs have you discovered or continued to enjoy this year?
Question Three: Did you achieve something this year that surprised you? (In any area of your life?) Care to share? A few things are fine too! Go you!

I had unexpected change in my life and I handled it with a grace that surprised me. This blog itself has been a pretty big achievement, winning an award was a huge (and very pleasant) surprise.

Question Four: Share some things you tried for the first time?!
For the first time in a VERY long time, I went body boarding. I managed to catch a decent wave and I was pretty proud that my boys saw me do that – so often they only see their dad doing those things. I was new to the primary school scene this year and was so happy to be part of our beautiful school community. I started boxing this year and I love it. My neighbour and I often go together and it’s always clear when we need to really throw the punches out.  Great therapy.

Question Five: What was the best thing you saw or heard?
I loved seeing Cat Empire.  My sons are always the best thing I see and hear in a day.  We took Master I to see the Lion King musical and I spent a great deal of it watching him, watch it. The delight on his face was priceless.

Question Six: Name 3 things you didn’t get to do this year that you want to tackle next year?
Regular yoga practice |  Enjoying food & nutrition so that thinking up dinner each evening doesn’t seem so much a chore | Figuring out an appropriate balance in my life so that my family life and my creative side are both nurtured.

Question Seven: If you could steal ONE QUALITY from another person, what and who would it be?
My hubby’s laid back and unflappable nature. I’d also like to steal the amount of sleep he gets.

Question Eight: Which bit of YOURSELF were you most proud of this year?

I have always enjoyed writing, but I have tended to see it as a personal endeavour, rather than sharing it. Being brave about baring my soul and my writing is something I am proud of.

Question Nine: Which skill do you most want to improve/acquire next year?
I am starting my own business next year.  Gulp.  I need to believe in myself and learn how to promote myself.  Wish me luck!

Question Ten: Best thing about this year? Most looked forward to thing about NEXT year?
Watching my dear boys grown and learn has been the best thing about this year. Next year I look forward to new beginnings and sparkling possibilities.

Sarah’s Reflections

Question One: Who are some people who inspired you in 2014?
From the perspective of women who inspire me to do what I love and be significant, I have totally fallen for Gemma Munro, Taryn Brumfitt and Pip Lincolne. These women are unstoppable. My family has had many challenges this year but my Mum and Grandmother have managed the whole situation with grace and a no nonsense approach. The way they have dealt with bureaucracy has been amazing. My sister-in-law Bree really inspired me this year with the changes she has made in her life. I look to many of my female friends and wonder how they do what they do. Last but not least, is my husband. He is my #1 muse.

Question Two: Which blogs have you discovered or continued to enjoy this year?
Meet Me At Mikes, Hugzilla, Champagne Cartel, Our Town Brisbane, Mother Down Under, Little Old Souls, The Kindred Collective, She Who Rambles, Dos Family, Woogs World, and Baby Mac.

Question Three: Did you achieve something this year that surprised you? (In any area of your life?) Care to share? A few things are fine too! Go you!
I managed to get through the last 12 months without having a full-on break down. Just a small one.  Seriously, it’s been a trip.

Starting the blog with Robyna has been a really exciting achievement as well. And then we won the Bupa Blog Award – ca-razy!

Question Four: Share some things you tried for the first time?!
With hubby away most of the time, being adventurous wasn’t really on the agenda. Now he is home I am looking forward to more fun outdoorsy stuff. I struggled with my health this year so new things I have tried and I am sure they have enriched my life include green smoothies, eating raw, almond milk, cacao and chia seeds. In other pursuits I got into pom-pom making, podcasts (Serial!!), and started doing regular creative writing.

Question Five: What was the best thing you saw or heard?
My daughters first words and her belly laugh. My amazing (now) husband waiting in front of the recycled timber doors that he turned into an altar, holding our daughter, in our backyard, waiting to marry me while this song played. And I play this song a lot when I am at home and in the car. And this cover.

Pip Q Post

Question Six: Name 3 things you didn’t get to do this year that you want to tackle next year?
More time and intimacy with my husband, more writing outside of the blog, more exercise. And more beach and nature. That’s four I know.

Question Seven: If you could steal ONE QUALITY from another person, what and who would it be?
Similar to Robyna, my husband’s very practical and relaxed approach to life.

Question Eight: Which bit of YOURSELF were you most proud of this year?
This year has tested me in a lot of ways. Mostly with regards to the solo parenting on minimal sleep. I am proud of the fact that I stuck to my guns on my gentle parenting choices. I have #embraced my body. I no longer look at food as good and bad – it is fuel and will help me to be unstoppable in achieving my dreams. I have started to take my mask off and be honest with everyone about my feelings. I am owning what I want to do and be and I am learning to be ok with that.

Question Nine: Which skill do you most want to improve/acquire next year?
My patience and how I deal with some situations, especially my tendency to snap at my husband. Continue with a lot of self improvement.

Question Ten: Best thing about this year? Most looked forward to thing about NEXT year?

Best things about this year – the precious time with my family, getting married and having the year with my daughter – so amazing. I most look forward to growing more next year. 2015 has more change in store and I am ready for it.

Have any reflections from 2014 or hopes for 2015 to share?

Oh, and I have to say… I think we must all be married to the same man! Laidback, unflappable, practical and relaxed are exactly the words I would use to describe my other half. LOL.
