There have been a few things happening lately within my family that have made me pause. Not huge things. Small warning signs. Enough to make me reassess priorities.
Enough to make me realise that I need to pull back on some commitments. This blog being one. I had intended to write three times a week this year but I am going to reduce that to two times – Tuesdays and Saturdays. I am loving writing style posts and that will continue on Saturdays. On Tuesdays who knows where words will lead me. Thursdays will be a bit quieter in this corner of the internet.
I am regularly writing at Mumtastic about motherhood truths. Over at Champagne Cartel I am writing primarily about simplifying and leveraging the tech in our lives. My freelance business has recently experienced some growth and something has to give. I don’t want my kids to remember their mother as the person constantly tied to the computer.
My boys and I are committing to screen free days before and after school and instead of catching up on email, I am using that time to talk and play with my sons. Everyone is enjoying it. My work is being placed within the parameters of three school hour days a week and I will write after the boys are in bed.
It’s a big change but I can already see how it puts my kids in a better frame of mind for the day ahead. Will it be sustainable? I hope so. The whole reason I chose to freelance and work from home was to spend time with my kids. So that’s what I’m going to do.
