A moments pause

There have been a few things happening lately within my family that have made me pause. Not huge things. Small warning signs.  Enough to make me reassess priorities.

a moments pause

Enough to make me realise that I need to pull back on some commitments. This  blog being one. I had intended to write three times a week this year but I am going to reduce that to two times – Tuesdays and Saturdays. I am loving writing style posts and that will continue on Saturdays. On Tuesdays who knows where words will lead me. Thursdays will be a bit quieter in this corner of the internet.

I am regularly writing at Mumtastic about motherhood truths. Over at Champagne Cartel I am writing primarily about simplifying and leveraging the tech in our lives. My freelance business has recently experienced some growth and something has to give. I don’t want my kids to remember their mother as the person constantly tied to the computer.

My boys and I are committing to screen free days before and after school and instead of catching up on email, I am using that time to talk and play with my sons. Everyone is enjoying it. My work is being placed within the parameters of three school hour days a week and I will write after the boys are in bed.

It’s a big change but I can already see how it puts my kids in a better frame of mind for the day ahead. Will it be sustainable?  I hope so. The whole reason I chose to freelance and work from home was to spend time with my kids. So that’s what I’m going to do.

Have you reassessed any lifestyle choices lately?

I’m feeling the same at the moment Robyna. The demands of the farm and my family are filling my days.
The girls and I just finished ten days screen free (just in time for a movie on the weekend!) ?
Hope you find the balance. Catch up soon. A xx

10 days! That sounds like such bliss. I must look at doing that. Have go with your heart and not put unrealistic demands on ourselves I think.

This past week I’ve fallen into some strange old habits so I’m curious why …and I’m still not sure! I feel like I’m only piecing together 2016 very slowly.
Good to hear your freelance work has picked up & I’m sure your boys will love the screen free time with you!

Robyna, I have been gasping at your output for awhile now! I was wondering how you did it all – with such great quality and content? Good on you for recognising the needs of your family before everything got too messy.
We did the “no screen thing before and after school” with our boys, even though screens were not so essential when they were young. It seemed hard at the time, peer pressure and the like, but to hear them now say as adults that it helped to make them better, more rounded people makes it worthwhile! Good luck!

Oh that’s such a wonderful thing to read! And thank you about the quality thing – that’s a very nice thing to say. I try to avoid “filler”.

Good on you for recognising that you needed to make a change. I am still trying to find my balance I am a bit of an all or nothing gal which means that there can be lots of output and none at all because I have this ridiculous bar that I must meet (btw the bar changes every single day!) so unless I feel I am meeting the bar it simply doesn’t even get started.

I look forward to finding that balance in my life but it is most certainly a process to get there.

Yep. I have just made similar changes and it’s all for the good! Good on you. I was always super impressed by your blog output anyway and never quite understood how you did it! Good luck with the changes, I hope they have the positive impact you’re hoping for. x

Robyna, you are reading my thoughts! I think being a parent that is available, present and around is so important. Stick with your new habits, it will create a beautiful environment for your kids. Bron x

I admire greatly anyone who posts with regularity. I am finding two just a nice balance. Three was getting too hard. More than that was seemingly impossible, so kudos to you.
