Weekend Rewind + Why I like blogs better than magazines

I am so excited (and a little starry-eyed) to be co-hosting the Weekend Rewind with Bron from Maxabella loves, Sonia from Life, Love and Hiccups, and Kelly from Kelly Exeter . I love a good party, I love hosting a good party and being invited to co-host a great party is even better. Like any fabulous party the Weekend Rewind is a place to make new friends and catch up with old ones. Please link up below to feed the mutual blog addiction.

It occurred to me that my blog addiction has replaced my magazine addiction. And I used to have quite the problem. As soon as a new issue hit the newsstands, it hit my bedside table. I would buy every issue of Vogue, Marie Claire, Harpers Bazaar and InStyle. Their covers were full of promises that were seldom fulfilled by the pages. But that never stopped me searching news agents, coveting my next magazine hit.  Nowadays, I have a Collective Magazine subscription and I will sometimes buy Frankie or Peppermint magazine. At some point spending nearly $10 on glossy pages full of advertising lost its appeal. It was probably at around the some point that I discovered blogs.

These are the reasons I think blogs are better than magazines. Read more

What my old blog can teach my new blog

New Blog Old Blog

This is a blog post about blogging and blogging with heart. If you aren’t a blogger you might not relate to this post but I’d really love you to stick around. You might like to have a Monday laugh about the secret beauty & fashion life of mothers.

Still here? How lovely.

When Sarah and I launched this blog late last year, I considered myself a newbie. New to words reaching beyond family and friends. New to blogging communities. New to schedules and editorial calendars, optimised images, social media promotion and SEO. New to blogging courses, blogging super-stars and blogging competitions. But not new to actually writing a blog. When my middle son died suddenly and unexpectedly as a baby, I found solace in words. When my youngest son was born, I felt confident enough to place those words online. I created a blog called Chasing His Sunshine. I wrote and write that blog for the primary purpose of mothering my middle son. I wasn’t a part of any blogging communities when I started that blog – I didn’t know they existed. The blog was a visible and creative space for him in my life. Visitors to that space are always welcome, but they don’t validate the words. I have been thinking about the way I write at that blog, the way I write at this blog and the things I am in danger of losing sight of. Here are the lessons my old blog can teach my new blog.

I’m away – can you feed my blog? And other nice things bloggers do for each other.

I'm Away_ Can you feed my blog?Today 1000 plus bloggers will join their voices talking about compassion. My voice will be amongst them. I wanted to write something profound, but nothing came to me. I wanted to write something that might spark change, but my mind went blank. There are so many places where compassion is lacking – the way we treat refugees, the way we treat the mentally ill, the way we treat people who might look or act differently, the way we treat our earth, the way we treat our elders, the way we treat the original caretakers of our country, the way we treat ourselves: the list is seemingly endless. Compassion is something that is so sorely needed in so many arenas. But somewhere I see so much compassion is within the blogging community.
