Why I don’t need you to inspire me. But I WANT you to.

When this blog was in its infancy, the tag line was “empowering mothers, inspiring minxes”. We were shiny-eyed with enthusiasm and the idea that we could touch other women’s lives in a positive way. The promise of doing something purposeful and visible. Something to fill an empty space while our careers where on maternity leave.

Then I started to notice something. How often a new writer would introduce themselves and their blog with the words “I can’t wait to inspire/empower/teach you how to make your life better”. Words that reflected the ones we had used.

Words I found grating. They rankled and bristled and left a bitter taste. They did not compel me to explore that writers work. They left me asking questions – Why does this person presume my life is not complete without them? Why have they assumed they will inspire me? What’s wrong with how I am right now? Read more…

For a little while we saw a significant drop off in Christmas cards. No doubt because of my own slackness when it comes to sending them. I love them. I love the idea of them. I just never seem to be organised enough to get them out before Christmas. Maybe I should start a tradition of New Years cards. Or mid-year cards. Or implement my 2016 Christmas plan.

When my son started school we started to get Christmas cards back into the house in large numbers. I enthusiastically displayed them, loved reading them and adored looking at them. But as I contemplate the Christmas clean up, I am wondering – what do we do them?

A Hand-Made Christmas Round Up

It’s a steamy day in Brisbane and the kids and I have just finished putting up the tree. It’s the kind that looked magnificent in the warehouse but just, just fits in our house. I used to have major Christmas tree OCD, but I have let that go this year. The end result being a tree full to the brim of decorations and no perceptible theme aside from unbridled joy. Now to place the hand-made Christmas presents under said tree.

How to make a fabric basket out of tea towels

These great little fabric baskets are a cinch to sew. I have used tea towels to make this super quick, but fabric also works well. You’ll just have to do some extra hemming.
