Every year Jo from iCurvyWorld hosts Shop What You Got – an online fashion challenge. The idea is you edit your wardrobe down to 30 pieces (including shoes) and only wear those pieces for a month, creating a different outfit each day.
I did it last year and loved the idea of making my clothes work a bit harder as well as coming up with new combinations. Last year I cheated and didn’t include shoes in my total. This year, I am going hardcore and not only including shoes, but I am not even going to declare my Melbourne Cup dress as an exception. I will declare two pairs of dress shoes as exceptions though (a girl has her limits.)
This is my edit…
My approach
- I have tried to keep within a colour scheme (blue, white, black with splashes of pink and red).
- I have plenty of “base” outfits that can be amped up with accessories (not part of the thirty listed below)
- I have a few items that can be worn in a few different ways.
- I have the washing machine at the ready (this was biggest lesson from last year – you will be washing more regularly than normal!)
- I have kept the bottom half minimal and I will add interest and colour with tops.
The Bottom Half
- White shorts
- Black shorts
- Blue print shorts
- White linen pants
- Light denim pants
- Blue print pants
- White wide-legged pants with blue trim
- Denim shorts
The Top Half
- White singlet/slip dress
- Black singlet/slip dress
- Blue singlet
- Layered white spaghetti strap top
- Cream long sleeved sheer top
- Black long sleeved sheer top
- Pink lace top
- Red silk top
- Black print top
- Green fringed top
- Long sleeved blue top
- White silk-look t-shirt
- Blue kimono jacket
- Crochet lace vest
- Off shoulder white lace top
Dresses
- Splash print dress for special occasions
- Floral maxi dress
The Shoes
- Black Flats
- Nude Sandals
- Black Sandals
- White Sandals
- White and grey sandals
Declarations
One pair of sparkly heels and one pair of nude heels. Both will only be worn once during the month.
Good luck! I can’t even begin to think about capsule wardrobes, this would render me in a state of panic.

hahahha – I am not really a minimalist so I am stretching myself!
Yes good luck with the challenge – look forward to seeing your creative endeavours over the next month!
Thanks – I am beginning to think I didn’t quite pick right for the weather though – how hot is it?
This is a great idea. It is good to keep your wardrobe fresh, it stops me spending money on more clothes!

It definitely gets challenging towards the end of the month not to re-wear but that’s when the magic happens as well.
Love your collection! The pops of colour are beautiful. I can’t wait to see you style them… I’ve added a link to your post in the linky so everyone can follow along your journey from there too 🙂 the linky will appear on every post I do about Shop What You Got so feel free to link up any posts over the month about the challenge x
Thanks Jo – will do. Pretty sure I’ll be swapping the black pants out though – it’s gotten all summery in Brisbane!
Oh I love your edit, I noticed it’s some how lacking in dresses (ha ha). I can’t wait to see you style them. Zoe xx

Yes, and I haven’t even worn the one I listed 🙂 Definite frock fatigue! Enjoying your 30 as well.
Good luck! I wish I had the drive to do this challenge, but post Frocktober I’m loving choosing my outfits again haha!

Ha – yes, I’ll be glad when my whole wardrobe is available to me come December 🙂
Oh that’s a great idea! I have so many clothes and still manage to wake up every day and wonder what I’m going to wear that day!
I love those blue print pants. I’d wear those to death, for sure!

Me too – paring everything down really makes you think about it though.
